  • Four Generations in the Workplace:  Mixing Experience, Leadership, Ambition and Fun

Cam Marston is a bona fide representative of Generation X: he tired of Corporate, USA and began his own business; he works his own unique hours; he sometimes brings his dog to work; he seldom wears a business suit; and he’s a nut for electronic devices.

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Cam attended Tulane University in New Orleans where he's a member of the Board of Directors for the Tulane Alumni Association. While at Tulane, Cam participated in a fraternity and was a member of the crew team.

Work opportunities led him to Charlotte, North Carolina, which he now calls home.  A regular contributor to the city’s National Public Radio affiliate, WFAE, Cam often shares his views on the differences that make us real. Ask him about his theory on daily word allocations for men versus women.

As a generational expert, Cam has been interviewed and featured by newspapers and magazines across the world including The Chicago Tribune, Meetings and Conventions Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, The New Zealand Herald, The Edward Jones Report, The Mobile Press Register, and The Philadelphia Enquirer. He has been a guest on talk radio shows and television news programs and has spoken throughout the United States and in Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Argentina, and Australia.  He was recently interviewed by the British Broadcasting Company for his perspective on the Generation X response to the September 11th terrorists attacks in New York and Washington

An active member of the local community, Cam is a member of the Involvement Forum, a program by the Charlotte Chamber that grooms young leaders in the city.

Cam is married to Lisa Marston, the head volleyball coach at UNC Charlotte. Cam and Coach can often be found cheering the Forty-Niners on their way to C-USA domination or appreciating the arts during a NoDa Gallery Crawl. They have not yet contributed to the generation to follow Generation Y, but certainly plan to.

"YOU ARE A VOLT SUPERSTAR!! Both your seminar "The Gen-X Files" as well as your motivational session "Four Generations in the Workplace" were the runaway hits of the Volt Services Group's Star Performers Showcase in Las Vegas!… The standing ovation you received for your dynamic performance was well deserved!"

Ellen Rufe

"Kudos on a job well done!… Your presentation was entertaining, educational and truly memorable. You made a great impression on the conference's delegates, our working staff and my upper management. I believe you made a lasting impact on leaders of tourism (South Carolina's number one industry)… I look forward to opportunities in the future that I may recommend you to others."

Phil Hamby
South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism
